Update – 17.11.2014

The UK arm of Revel Body have partnered with The Eve Appeal. This appeal raises money and awareness for the improved treatment of the five gynaecological cancers. For every Revel Body SOL sold through the website, Revel Body will donate £1 to this charity. This is a great way to raise awareness about these specific cancers, as a recent US survey found that women who use vibrators are significantly more likely to have gynaecological examinations and perform self-checks than those who never used vibrators. With the Revel SOL’s focus on health and well-being from a sexual perspective this really makes the partnership a perfect fit.

You can read more information in this press release.

The Review

After speaking with the lovely Robin Elenga at the ETO Show this year about the future of Revel Body and having a sneak preview of the brand new Revel Body SOL, it was a delightful surprise to receive it recently in the post. The UK distribution team sent me the Revel Body SOL free of charge, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

But that’s not all.

The Revel Body SOL came packed in a large black box, along with a mini bottle of white wine and an aromatherapy candle. The accompanying letter introduced the product and invited me to have the most relaxing bath of my life.

I hope you’re all taking note, sex toy companies – I want wine with all my sex toys now!

Right, with that bit of brattiness out of the way, I shall begin.

Oh one more thing: you can read my review for the original Revel Body here.

First impressions

revel-body-SOL-14

The Revel Body SOL comes in a very well presented cuboid box, at a somewhat artistic contrast to the spherical shape of the product within. The box containing the SOL & accessories is encased by an outer, glossy card wrap which displays imagery of the product, some spiel and company details as well as important info and the product name. It looks like an expensive product and sliding the cuboid box from the glossy sleeve led me to feel that this was a stylish and sophisticated product worth my attention.

What’s in the box

revel-body-SOL-26

Inside the Revel Body SOL box you get:

  • The Revel Body SOL (hurrah!)
  • The charging base/dock with USB lead attached
  • 2 alternative tips for the central piston
  • An instruction booklet

I was a little sad that I didn’t receive a storage pouch but then I guess it keeps quite nicely in the sturdy and nicely presented box. You can also purchase a travel/storage bag separately if you wish. The Revel Body SOL also looks like a discreet nightlight when set up on your bedside table – it would be difficult for anyone to guess (say, if you’re in a hotel or something) that this is really a sex toy.

Measurements

These are all my own measurements, not official. The circumference around the Revel Body SOL is 8.25 inches. The inner piston measures 1.9 inches in length (2.1 inches with a tip on it), with a measurement of 1 inch across the top of the standard, convex tip.

The Revel Body SOL is comfortable, easy and light to hold in the palm of your hand, feeling somewhat like a silicone covered tennis ball – to give you an idea of shape and size.

Charging Up

Charging the Revel Body SOL was inordinately easy. I simply plugged the end of the lead into a USB port and the other end is permanently attached to the charging base/dock. Then all I had to do was pop the Revel Body SOL on top, lining up the charging port with the relevant area on the base and voila. The Revel Body SOL lights up to let you know it’s charging.

Testing out the vibes

Once my Revel Body SOL was fully charged (I left it overnight), I was of course insanely curious to see how the vibrations would feel. Unlike other, standard vibrators, the movement of the Revel Body SOL is definitely an up and down motion thanks to the inner motor working with the strong magnets and likewise, the magnetised central piston.

Revel Body have been very clear to anyone who owns a Revel Body SOL this time: the strongest motion from this product isn’t felt at the very top of the speed scale. If you’re looking for maximum dramatic impact, the middle of the road is where you want. They’re not wrong either, as far as I experienced it. Levels 2-3 gave me the best sensations (being a power queen, of course) while higher levels of movement speed lost that dramatic impact and would be more suited to those who prefer gentler vibes and a soft touch, in my opinion.

I knew I would be focussing my testing on the lower levels (ie the more dramatic motions up and down); the higher ones blurred too much into a barely felt sensation for me to find it enjoyable.

On dry land

Using the Revel Body SOL during ordinary masturbation (if such a thing can ever be called ordinary!) I used the convex side of the piston within the device. The silicone tip is quite obviously meant to provide stimulation to the clitoris. The convex tip just ‘feels’ right but I’m not sure if that’s because I am used to seeing the marketing images of the SOL with this tip in place, making me feel like I’m using it ‘correctly’. The wide, smooth area is a good basis to begin using the SOL, as it gives that juddering back and forth motion over the clitoris without any additional texture to be distracted by while you get used to the feeling.

The disc style tip is my second favourite, I don’t enjoy that one quite as much. I prefer ‘sticky out’ tips with the Revel Body, it seems. Strangely (as I love textured toys) I wasn’t as enamoured by the noduled tip either as it allowed less firm impact when the piston hit against my clit. Your preferences will all come down to personal preference, obviously.

I actually prefer using the SOL without lube, for instance (only compatible with water based) whereas others may find it works better for them with lube added.

You can use the Revel Body SOL with your partner too. we used it together during intimate moments and foreplay and he wasn’t averse to having the higher levels over his shaft and balls – just watch for any trapped hairs though. Ouch. He found the lower, more dramatic levels (which I enjoyed) too intense to be used on his sensitive areas. Therefore, this toy makes a great product for us both to use, as between us we get the best out of all the levels.

In the water

Of course I was very much looking forward to trying the Revel Body SOL in the bath. The alternative method of enjoying the power and motion of this toy is through suction, by using the opposite end of it over your clit. Instead of the piston hitting your clit, there’s a concave area through which a vacuum is formed – as long as you place it carefully. I was advised by a friend not to use bubble bath if I wanted to use the Revel Body SOL but of course I rebelled. I wanted to see what would happen. Sadly I didn’t end up with a jacuzzi, but the vacuum was difficult to achieve due to the bubbles in the bath water. With a clear bath the vacuum seal was easier to achieve and I found the experience much more orgasmic.

When I use the Revel Body SOL in the bath I do have to run it quite deep as well, to make sure that there’s enough water when I am laying down to submerge both my vulva and the sex toy. It doesn’t work so well for me if it’s half out of the water and it’s not comfortable trying to half sit up to position it either. A deep bath fixed the problem.

Using the water method of the Revel Body SOL feels very similar to enthusiastic oral sex to me. It did take me quite a while to orgasm this way but I know this is because my body is used to orgasming through high speed vibrations rather than tongue based talents.

And yes, the candle and wine helped too, thank you!

Summary

The back and forth motion of the Revel Body SOL won’t be for everyone, but if you can make it work for you and get past the fact that this isn’t a ‘normal’ vibrator, then you will probably love it. There’s a motion level for power queens like me as well as those who like their sex toys a little less intense. You can use it in the bath, easily clean it and it even makes a versatile and discreet night light.

I personally love the Revel Body SOL and I admire the technology and work that’s gone into its design and creation. It’s not the cheapest sex toy but the best things rarely are – and you’re paying for brilliant design which actually works – for me, at least. Your mileage may vary!

  1. Toy Review: The Revel Body SOL | Emmeline Peaches Reviews

[…] I had good reason to be hesitant, mind you. The original Revel Body received mostly negative (or, at the very least, disappointing) reviews. Meanwhile this new toy, the Revel Body SOL, while considered as an improvement over the first Revel Body, has still been getting mixed reviews. […]
