Though along a different genre completely, I couldn’t stand the Twilight series, but I sure did appreciate teenagers avidly reading.

I keep checking back on this. Really interested to see how it goes. I too can often (50/50) not reach orgasm from manual stimulation. All feminism means, absolutely all, is that you believe in equal rights and respect for men and women. The definition is “Belief in women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.” So, if you believe that you are a feminist, by definition. Irrespective of whatever groups you may have met who have tried to change the definition. Housewives, sex workers, business women – if they believe that women and men should have equal rights politically, socially and economically they are feminists. What a shame the waters have become so muddied.

Well, there’s a reason people talk about “feminisms” – its really a chaotic strata of conflicting ideologies all wrapped around the same theme. And what you’ve written pretty much fits into that strata. Feminism is not really a unified ideology, largely because there are 3 billion and a half billion women on the planet.

The problem being, of course, that since feminism contains a particular moral strand, it gets preached the same way as religion. So anyone’s reaction to any particular thread of feminism is going to be entirely subjective.

So such feminist-preacher sorts tend to make as many enemies and allies, usually by dismissing the needs and experiences of many women for some reason or another.

As I understand it, rather than being solely interested in promoting the welfare of women alone, feminists do promote equal treatment of both genders and are not opposed to men in general but are specifically opposed to patriarchy (which is harmful to both women and men). I think part of the issue is that, as it stands, there are so many disagreements as to what feminism is today and what beliefs/ideals it stands for. I identify as a feminist and yet I agree with everything you wrote about not idealizing masculinity over femininity, how we should treat everyone equally regardless of gender, etc.
